History and description

Located in the Rissuolo Valley, in the beautiful Valle Vogna, on the way to Corno Bianco, Refuge Carestia was founded in 1995 substituting a previous refuge that turned into to be too dangerous to be used.

It is dedicated to Antonio Carestia from Riva, a botanist-Alpinist, famous world-wide, who was very fond of this valley.

It has a bar-restaurant, communal bathrooms and showers, electric lighting and sleeps 30. The refuge is the ideal place for a quiet getaway in an Alpine environment far from stressfull lifestyle.

How to get there
From Riva Valdobbia by car to Valle Vogna until the hamlet Cà Janzo. From here, following trail n°1, you will reach the refuge in about 3 hours following an easy trail.

How to reach Valle Vogna from Riva Valdobbia
In Valle Vogna there is not public transport and during summer it is a free -car area. You can take advantage of a transfer service with 7-people bus. (the Monterosa Sky Shuttle +39347 1970680)

Mont Rosa is the beginning and continuity of the history of Alagna, the small Walser village clinging to its southern wall. The refuges of Monte Rosa (Capanna Margherita, Capanna Gnifetti, Refuge Vigevano, Refuge Pastore, Refuge Carestia and Refuge Barba Ferrero) are all part of its history and Alpine tradition and are the proud results of those who wanted and managed them for more than 100 years
