History and description

The refuge is found in the glacial basin at the foot of Col d'Olen at more than 2864m above sea level, in a very panoramic position facing the peaks of Mont Rosa and the valley.

It was originally the Stolemberg-Grober Hotel in the early '900's and today it is a modern and well-equipped refuge with a bar, restaurant and sleeps 74 in small, cosy rooms. 6 of these rooms are heated with 3, 4 or 6 beds each, 10 rooms are not heated with 4 or 3 beds, bathrooms and hot showers on all floors.

It is the ideal base for heliski and off-piste skiing in winter, the historical stopover for ascents to the summits of Mont Rosa and an excellent starting point for numerous trekking itineraries in summer.

How to get there. Take the cablecar from Alagna or Gressoney until Passo dei Salati. It is about a 10min walk from there. On foot from Alagna, crossing the valley Olen, following trail n°5 for about 4 hours.
