History and description

The Città di Mantova hut, owned by the Gressoney Alpine Guides, is located at 3498 meters on the Monte Rosa Glacier at Garstelet. It is the starting point for the major climbs of Monte Rosa (Capanna Margherita, Piramide Vincent, Cristo delle Vette, Lyskamm, Dufour and Col del Lys).

In the basement there are the toilets with showers and the changing room, where mountaineers can change and leave their mountaineering equipment.

On the ground floor a large dining room meets the needs relating to the capacity of the refuge, a magnificent view of Monte Rosa and capacity of approximately 100 seats, 120 beds in heated bedrooms and dormitories with bunk beds.

The Mantova Refuge can be reached with a glacier path lasting about 1 hour from the arrival of the new Passo Salati-Indren lift at 3275 m, with an overall climb of 223 m. Passo dei Salati can be reached with the Monterosaski lifts from Alagna or from Gressoney La Trinité.
