Hut description

In the heart of the Alta Valsesia Natural Park, situated on the wide grassy plateau of Alpe Pile beneath the spectacular south face of Monte Rosa (1,575 m), Pastore Hut consists of a group of renovated alpine huts.

It offers 60 beds in heated rooms with 4–6 beds each, plus a shared dormitory with 14 beds.

Shared sanitary facilities, located in a hut 20 meters from the rooms, include toilets, sinks, and hot showers. The use of a personal sleeping bag liner is mandatory and cannot be purchased at the hut.

The hut also provides a dedicated area for camping and a winter room, available during periods when the main structure is closed.

Monte Rosa is the beginning and the ongoing thread of Alagna’s history, the small Walser village nestled beneath its southern face.

The Monte Rosa mountain huts — Margherita Hut, Gnifetti Hut, Pastore Hut, Carestia Hut, and Barba Ferrero Hut — are an integral part of the area’s history and alpine tradition and represent a source of pride for the section that has established and managed them for over 100 years.

Pastore Hut

How to Reach Pastore Hut

  • In winter, the Wold – Acqua Bianca shuttle service is suspended.
It is mandatory to leave your car in the Località Wold parking area and reach the hut on foot in about one hour (via Route 1 or 2 described below).
The trail is easy, but since snow conditions can vary greatly even during the same day, it is recommended to carry snowshoes or microspikes.

The hut can be reached from Alagna via two possible routes:

Route 1

From Località Wold, 1 km past Alagna, continue on foot along the paved road for about 3 km to Acqua Bianca, where the namesake waterfall is worth a photo. Then take trail no. 6. 6.
The wide and recently renovated mule track, with a moderate incline in some sections, offers beautiful panoramas, such as the Caldaie del Sesia waterfall.
This easy and short route guarantees that everyone can reach the hut.
Hiking time from Alagna: 45–50 min
Hiking time from Acqua Bianca parking: 20 min

Route 2

From Località Wold, 1 km past Alagna, continue on foot along the paved road for about 1.5 km to Sant’Antonio, where a small chapel is located. After the chapel, about 50 m before the vehicle bridge, take trail no. 6 near a large boulder. The trail is relatively steep with a long stairway but remains a simple path to the hut.
Hiking time from Alagna: 45–50 min

Hiking time from Sant’Antonio: 30 min
