Hut description

At the head of the Lys glacier basin, at an elevation of 3,647 meters on the Garstlet Glacier, the Gnifetti Hut offers 176 beds in heated rooms:
six-bed rooms with bunk beds and four large dormitories accommodating 10–15 people.
The hut is equipped with shared toilets and washbasins, hot showers (1 token €6 for approximately 4 minutes, available only during the summer season, not in spring), electric lighting, and an emergency radio call system.

The Gnifetti Hut is a historic base hut for the most demanding ascents, including the climb to Margherita Hut and high-altitude traverses.

The new management is particularly attentive to service quality and hospitality. The bar has been renovated, and great care is taken with the catering and dining service.

How to Reach Gnifetti Hut

Via a glacier route of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from the arrival of the new Passo Salati–Indren lift at 3,275 meters, with a total ascent of 372 meters.
Passo dei Salati can be reached via the Monterosa Ski lift system from Alagna or from Gressoney-La-Trinité.

All ascents starting from Gnifetti Hut are alpine in nature and require high-mountain equipment as well as solid mountaineering skills.

It is recommended to be accompanied by a UIAGM Mountain Guide.

Monte Rosa is the beginning and the ongoing thread of Alagna’s history, the small Walser village nestled beneath its southern face. The Monte Rosa mountain huts — Margherita Hut, Gnifetti Hut, Pastore Hut, Carestia Hut, and Barba Ferrero Hut — are an integral part of the region’s history and alpine heritage. They represent a source of pride for the Varallo Section of the Italian Alpine Club, which has established and managed them for over 100 years.
